Fundraising

Since it began in 2013, Shooting Starz has grown from Luke and Yusuf running sessions in the local parks that has today over 500 children doing football, netball, gymnastics and multi-sports across multiple sites. It is set to grow even further.

FC Starz (football) and Starz NC (netball), the two not-for-profit competitive clubs created by Shooting Starz, remain true to their ethos of bringing families together and building a more cohesive community through the power of sport.

However, both clubs went years with no established home ground to host matches and with the cost of renting sports grounds rising, it has been an uphill climb. Both clubs have faced many hurdles, having to train outdoors in winter on slippery wet courts and muddy football pitches. We want to ensure that we always have feasible space as the club grows.

In 2020, conversations took place between Shooting Starz, Acton Cricket Club and the Old Vaughanians Football Club to set up an amateur sports club between the three not-for-profit groups. Together, Acton Sports Club (ASC) was formed. ASC managed to procure a lease on the grounds of The Park Club to build a clubhouse in the first phase, completed July 2023. Plans are underway to explore the feasibility of a covered or indoor netball facilities in the next phase.
‍
The clubhouse opened in July 2023. This clubhouse is for members’ daily use: a place for the families of our communities to come together. An indoor lounge area, fully functioning kitchen and bar, changing rooms and shower rooms and external viewing and seating terrace are among the many features available to members. Now that the clubhouse is up, we move on to the second phase by adding further infrastructure, subject to planning permission, of an indoor or covered netball court for Starz NC, play areas for children and more sporting facilities for everyone.
‍
Acton Cricket Club has financed the first tranche, and along with the Old Vaughanians, we now need to meet our agreed commitment of £200,000 (per club) for the clubhouse. Starz Community Trust, currently in the process of being registered as a charity, has been formed to oversee the fundraising effort and support a wide range of initiatives to provide sporting and social opportunities for children and adults in the community.
